The measuring, processing, 3D scanning and complete digitisation of Alba-Iulia’s physical location, and the exportation of this 3D model followed by the integration of the model with a software app, dedicated to the virtual exploration of the city, in FPS/VR modes, using a specific equipment (VR headset).

The complete 3D scanning, at high resolution and precision of the entire surface covered by the project, such as it was perimetered and contrasted by the topographical plans of the area.

The 3D modelling of all the buildings inside the final project area – using a level of precision which is considered sufficient and needed in order for you to build your pitches and presentations while working with 3rd party investors or other interested entities.

Drafting the area plans, overlaid on top of the 3D drafts which were previously 3D scanned, and choosing the optimal positions for all the entities and actors, including the road network, access ways, historical objectives, etc.

The development of an interactive, desktop 3D app (including a VR mode), which when used via a medium-performance computer, you will be able to virtually explore the interest areas, alongside your partners, in real time and with the possibility of inmediate and quick decisions on the various changes you will need to take at the time.

  • We’re dealing with a large surface area, of around 170 hectares. In order to scan everything, we will need to travel repeatedly to the location from Bucharest, in order to collect the data using professional drones with 4K lenses, which last around 20 minutes/battery cycle, and also to run topo-measurements using a total station equipped with GPS/GNSS sensors.
  • After collecting the data, we will process them in order to realise the full 3D model. We’ll use specific aero-photogrammetry techniques, integrating the polar coordinates in a Stereo 70 Bod Brasov layout, register the point clouds, digitally re-topologise the mesh, optimise the resulting model, decimate the meshes and finally retexturing the materials atlas to a high resolution.
  • In order to visualise the 3D model and launch the app – we’ll attach a .txt file containing the instructions. The 3D model will be hosted on the www.sketchfab.com website, under an official account created for this project for free. The app will be in .x64 executable format, for a desktop PC using a video card with at least 2GB of RAM memory capacity, a total memory of at least 8 GB and an Intel Core i5 or compatible CPU.

The final beneficiaries are expected to be the general public on one hand, through potentially exploring the city in a completely new and interactive way, and the authorities and specialists on the other (urban planning, marketing, historical objectives restoration, infrastructure, event planning, etc.)

Taking into account EU’s recommendations that Romania, alongside other EU members – should have a digital database containing the monuments and other cultural and historical objectives, especially the ones listed under the UNESC list – the necessity arrived to do it alongside the potential of the hereby proposed services.

Thus the benefits of having a complete, consolidated database with the monuments and other areas of interest across the country in general, and from Alba-Iulia in this case – are obvious and inmediate – apart from the help given to those in charge with the restorations in the future (painters, archeologists, restorators etc.), this kind of digital archive would also help to multiplying the number of tourists, and also serve as a starting point in the education of future generations – knowing that for various reasons, many historical monuments, buildings, museums and other artifacts have degraded excessively after 1989.
